Needham B. Broughton High School Band

TOURNAMENT OF ROSES

UPDATE #11

AUGUST 19, 2007

First let me say thank you to all who have made the band camp a very enjoyable experience. Even thought the weather was a little on the "toasty" side, I commend all for their efforts and work ethic. It will continue to stay hot for sometime so we will need to keep the same procedures in place as we continue to make progress and work towards the first contest in October.

Here are some things you need to know:

NEXT GAME ON FRIDAY

Friday August 24 we are back and ready to continue our improvement on our show. We have a game that evening so we will be staying until AT LEAST 9:00 PM that evening. It will be a long day but that is ok. Remember that the dress for the game is NO UNIFORMS with shorts, tennis shoes, and a t-shirt. It would be strongly advised since our practice field has lots of dirt to maybe bring a complete change of shorts, t-shirt AND socks and wipe your body down and put on something clean. It will make you feel better.

We will feed our students Chick-fil-A so you will not have to worry about dinner. Only your lunch like camp.

Admission to get into the game is $5.00/person. Band members are always admitted free.

Band parents traditionally sit up behind the band so come on over and meet more of the people you will be associated with this year.

And we will have food cards available at all games. So collect those checks from work and get them on Friday PM!

SEE YOU THEN!!!

ITEMS THAT ARE DUE

The following are due by Friday August 31, 2007:

  • The mag booklet in the magazine envelope - it should be full of addresses
  • Any request for pullovers, shirt, videos, DVD's etc. with check attached
  • Southern Living mag orders
  • Volunteer request from with your intentions to help this year.

8TH GRADE UNIFORMS

Since we all allowing any 8th grader who has a sibling in the band to march and participate in the TOR experience, you will be fitted for your uniform after halftime of the August 24 ballgame. Please be at the game and we will take you to our uniform room and get you fitted in your parade uniforms.

TOR DEPOSITS

Please continue to bring in the money. By October 1, you must have $750.00 in your account for each person in your family who is attending. That gives you 6 weeks to get moving if you know you are short.

October 1 has $750.00 per person in your account

November 1 has $1300.00 per person in your account with notification from us on the amount you still owe for the trip.

November 15 is deadline of all payments.

We are continuing our work to lower the cost of the trip for all parade participants. More info to be told you as we get it!

OTHER BANDS COST

I have continued to research and find out what other USA bands are paying for this trip. International bands naturally are higher due to airfare. I am happy to report that our trip is the longest time in California (along with the Ohio band) but the cheapest of EVERYONE! I greatly appreciate what Norman Travel has done. We are traveling the FURTHEST and STAYING the longest and having the CHEAPEST trip. And we are not doing cheap things. Dinner on the Queen Mary. Day at Universal Studios where the movies are made. Day in San Diego at Sea World (I don't think anyone is doing that). Santa Monica Pier. Hollywood!

SO get moving and get your money in!

CHICK-fil-A/SOUTHERN LIVING/GLOBETROTTER LUGGAGE

Use these additional fund raising things to help you and us. Give out the Chick-fil-A coupons and ask people to just go there and take the coupon and order the trays. That is all you have to do. FILLET does the rest. Southern Living is giving us a complete 100% profit on themags sold! Globetrotter is giving us $3.00 on each new book bag sold. Tell people to go there if they need a new one!

It is very obvious to ME that we are trying to help YOU! Now you do your part!

EAT OUT DINNER NIGHTS IN RALEIGH

Thanks to Esther Clark for organzing all of this and we will let you know when and where. Once again, you just tell your friends and family, they eat there on a set night, and the restaurants send us a percentage check for all that attend. NO BRAINER HERE!

ONCE AGAIN, it is very obvious to ME that we are trying to help YOU! Now you do your part!

EXERCISE PROGRAM

Get away from this computer and go walk one mile right now. It will take 15 minutes! That includes you too mom! Go count mailboxes!

AUGUST 31 ACCOUNT SHEET

On the Friday before Labor Day holiday, each student will be given the most up to date account sheet that will show all activity through August 24, 2007. It will also contain much needed info regarding airline reservations, room reservations, and Queen Mary dinner reservations. Each student will have two weeks to return the needed info.

Please ask for it when your child gets home on that Friday.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!! NO SCREW-UPS ALLOWED ON ANY OF THIS!!!! A SCREW-UP COULD MEAN NO AIRLINE TICKET OR HOTEL ROOM!

TOR DRESS AND ATTIRE

Since it is warm in the Southern California area in January (but not very hot) shorts can be worn. The official look of this band for the trip will be either khaki long pants that will go with your black TOR pullover or khaki shorts that can also be worn with your pullover. Gym shorts and that type of basketball pants WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn out of the hotel. Around the hotel I don't care. But when in public, it will be khaki type of long pants or shorts.

Since summer is coming to an end, I am telling you this now so maybe you can look for some clearance sales in various stores. They will be hard to find in December so start looking now. THIS WILL BE A REQUIREMENT so it is best you look now for two-three pair of shorts. You may already be in possession of these type of shorts! Course you can wear dark shorts but with a black pullover we might have to call the fashion police!

Tennis shoes will be expected with long/short pants.

The Queen Mary dinner is a coat/tie/dresses. These are their rules----not mine!

You will get a complete clothes requirement packing list in December.

That is about it for this wrap up! Again thanks for band camp and we see you again on Friday!

Bring in all that stuff on Friday and not have to worry with it when school starts!
