Needham B. Broughton High School Band

TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE

UPDATE #4

APRIL 11, 2007

Most of you will be getting this while we are in Florida on our spring trip. I wanted to send another quick update while we were gone so that you would be kept in the loop of our plans as we move towards TOR 2008! We are presently on one trip and you are getting an update about another trip. IT NEVER STOPS AS YOU CAN SEE!

AIA WINTER GUARD CHAMPIONSHIPS

A huge success and I say thank you to all who assisted! Roughly $15,000 profit for the three groups who sponsored it and we have had nothing but brave reviews about your assistance over those two long tiring days. Thanks for your assistance and for assisting the band with hosting this event for over 134 units from 100 schools from North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland.

DEADLINES

As we move closer to releasing the total cost of the trip, I wish to remind many of you that MANY IMPORTANT DEADLINES are approaching. If you are NOT in the "official" party and wished us to reserve either parade tickets, Queen Mary dinner tickets, or parade parking permits, the deadline for all of those items is MAY 1, 2007. After that date we will release whatever space you have been holding and it will be your responsibility to handle these items. It basically means NO PARADE OR DINNER TICKETS WITH US! Just to remind you: parade tickets are $70.00 each. Queen Mary dinner tickets are $60.00 each. Parking permits are $30.00 each. Please forward a check payable to the Broughton Band Boosters for any of the above costs that apply to you. It would be a great assistance to me if you would forward to me the names of those who will be using the Parade/Queen Mary tickets. It helps my bookkeeping procedures as I keep track of EVERY PERSON who might be purchasing these items. Please do not ask for an extension. I must drop you after that date and release seats for all events. I have deadlines too that I must meet with organizers in Pasadena!

AND SPEAKING OF COST......

As soon as we return from DISNEY and our four-day "magical" adventure, I will be releasing the proposed cost. We still do not have the 2008 Universal Studios admission costs as well as a few other costs like float visitation for non-band members. Those associated with those costs have not released their 2008 costs! I WISH THEY WOULD HURRY! I have decided to release the cost with the understanding that the trip COULD rise slightly once all these "incidental" costs are confirmed. We are going to release the cost based on last year but know that it might rise slightly. So the next newsletter update will inform you of the cost so you can plan ahead!

SPONSORSHIPS

I continue to get money in from many sponsorships and I appreciate the efforts of many of our students. I know there is more $$$$ out there so let's keep working at it. We are still waiting on word from over 82% of our submitted grants so hopefully they will begin to roll in too and that will assist with lowering the cost for all band members who will be in the parade.

LAST CONCERT

Our last concert is Thursday, May 3 at 7:30 PM in the auditorium. We hope you can make it as we salute our seniors who will graduate in roughly one month after that concert.

PRESIDENT OF THE TOURNAMENT OF ROSES

Mr. and Mrs. Keedy will be in Raleigh from May 28-31, 2007. Please mark your calendar for Monday evening, May 28 for a BBQ dinner and information from Mr. Keedy about the TOR experience. We will be asking you to submit your reservation request at a later date but wanted you to mark this on your calendar. This is Memorial Day but since exams will be starting in two days, this is the only time that you will have the chance to meets the Keedys while they are here.

TRANSFERS TO BROUGHTON

I know many of you who are receiving this are still hoping to make it into Broughton. AND WE ARE HOPING YOU MAKE IT TOO! Please continue the appeal process even though it can be very frustrating. You may be turned down numerous times but hopefully it will all work out! Keep me posted on your appeals process!

NEW PERCUSSION AND COLOR GUARD FOR 2007-2008

If you know of anyone coming into Broughton who might wish to get involved with our percussion and color guard programs, I will need to know ASAP! Percussion will start on Tuesday, April 17 and color guard will start on Monday, April 23. With a trip of this magnitude, it will virtually be impossible to add someone to the program in the summer. I need to know ASAP and please encourage any rising 9th graders to join us. They won't regret it!

REVIEWING THE INFORMATION

While hosting the AIA Championships, I took the time to review and make sure that all the information that you had forwarded to me had been entered correctly and no one had been left off the TOR list. I only found three mistakes out of 343 total requests so THANK YOU for submitting your information so quickly and correctly. All is moving forward and thanks for being so prompt.

I did find names on various forms from many who said they were going with us. However they had not forwarded ONE DEPOSIT and therefore I dropped them from the trip. If you are planning to go, then your ticket IS YOUR DEPOSIT. No one can just walk up at the end and be added. Please let me know if anything has changed! Word of mouth DOES not reserve you a seat on the trip. Your deposit does!

FOOD CARD PROGRAMS

We are going to allow anyone who purchases our food cards through his program to do so through June 1, 2007 and the profits will go towards your TOR account. So even though we have traveled for this year and closed down the 2006-2007 accounts, you can still put money into your accounts through the food card programs. DO NOT STOP JUST BECAUSE THE YEAR IS WINDING DOWN! In the next 8 weeks you could easily knock a huge chunk out of your TOR trip account.

JUNE 1, 2007 DEADLINE

On that date we will begin to process all accounts and let you know by June 10, 2007 of how much money is in your TOR trip account. So between now and then please continue to submit your monthly deposit and purchase the food cards.

That is really about it! The next newsletter will tell you everything! Look for it around April 22, 2007!
